José Lozano
Los Angeles-based artist José Lozano has had a long and varied career as an educator, writer, painter, public art, printer and illustrator. Raised in Mexico and Southern California, Lozano has always mined the life around him, hoping to capture that which delights and troubles. He illustrates crowded, sometimes menacing throngs of humanity. His lines seem to shimmer, defining undulating bodies and complementing the slick, 1930s hairstyles of his figures, and his re-creations of yellow legal pads serve as appropriate backgrounds for his playful and inventive doodles.
Lozano attended Art Center College of Design, and received his MFA from CSUF 1987, where he studied with Kim Abeles, Pierre Picot and Leo Robinson. He has exhibited extensively in Los Angeles and Orange County, and participated in events and ateliers at Self-Help Graphics. Seven of his serigraphs completed there are in LACMA's permanent collection.
