Julius Shulman
Julius Shulman was an architectural photographer who lived and worked in Los Angeles, California. Making significant contributions to our envisionings of post-war design, he is regarded as one of the most important architectural photographers of the 20th century. Shulman shot for numerous icons of modern architecture, including the structures of Richard Neutra, Charles and Ray Eames, Rudolf Schindler, and Frank Lloyd Wright.
Shulman’s black-and-white photographs emphasize the geometric lines of modern architecture and portray an idealized vision of mid-century living. His photograph of two elegant women gracing Pierre Koenig’s Case Study House No. 22—otherwise known as the Stahl House—stands among the most recognizable images of Los Angeles architecture.
