Pierre Picot

Pierre Picot was a Franco-American artist who grew up between Paris and Los Angeles; as an immigrant, he often described his working process as a way of seeking home. He was an undergraduate student at UCLA in the late 60s, studying with Ed Ruscha, William Brice, and Lee Mullican. Amid waves of New Image painting, Neo-Expressionism, and appropriationist practice, he made a place for himself with new-imagery mash-ups. He was part of L.A. 's contingent of Neo-Expressionists, exhibiting alongside the likes of Julian Schnabel, David Salle and Robert Longo.

Picot received his MFA from the California Institute of the Arts in 1973. His work has been exhibited in galleries and museums like the Getty Museum, Pasadena City College Gallery, Susan Landau Gallery, the Downey Museum of Art, USC Fisher Gallery, Galerie du Placard, Sala de Exposiciones de la Excma, Risk Press Gallery, the Riverside Museum of Art, El Camino College Art Gallery, Jan Baum Gallery and the Armory Center for the Arts.
